Wayne “Rabbit” Bartholomew Hospitalized After Being Bitten By Snake
A quarrel between a rabbit and a serpent.
1978 world champion surfer and former CEO of the ASP, Wayne Bartholomew, was hospitalized after being bit by a snake yesterday. Given his nickname “Rabbit”, I’m sure the jokes are flooding the hospital floors. While Wayne’s name may not ring any bells amongst today’s the groms, his Coolie Kid roots run deep in competitive surf culture.
The respected Australian figure shared this photo from the hospital on social media after the incident happened.
Since his glory days, Rabbit has kept busy. He won the ASP Masters in 1999 and 2003. Today, Wayne steers most of his energy towards politics.
Acording to Brisbane Times:
The Gold Coast surfing legend was personally recruited by Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk to run for Labor at the October state election.
Mr Bartholomew secured a 3.6 per cent swing to the party and came close to unseating Burleigh incumbent Michael Hart, who held onto his seat by 713 votes.
Mr. Bartholomew has definitely left his mark in the world of surfing, and continues to give back to the local community. We wish him a speedy recovery.
