POV: You Just Booked A Trip To Tavarua
Mason Ho frolics in Fiji barrels.
If you’ve paid attention to Mason Ho’s YouTube channel recently, you’ve seen the happy-go-lucky Hawaiian shun warm water for 5-millimeters of neoprene armor and do battle, medieval style, in shallow reefs below the Scottish highlands.
This week Mason took a break from backbreaking Scottish slabs to roll out a step-by-step reel from a more recent trip to Fiji, where he wrangled a few Cloudbreak runners. In the video above, Mason gives us snippets of the whole shebang, start to finish. From gate checks to kava chugs and back again.
It’s pretty much what you’d expect from a Fiji strike mission with Mason. Waves: Really fun. Water: Absurdly clear. Reef: Close. Local hospitality: Amazing. Mason: Himself. At first glance, Fiji seems almost too perfect for Mason. There’s no shorebreak for him to charge, nor boulders for him to hop over. I half expect him to start playing with snakes for the hell of it.
Still, Mason is a professional at having a good time. And how can you not when staying at a place as nice as Tavarua? Despite a tussle with the reef, Mason left Fiji in high spirits. Now, where’d that armor go?
