Norwegian Multinational Plans To Conduct One Of World’s Largest Seismic Blasting Projects Off Victoria’s Coastline
‘Bang the fucking drum on this insanity,’ writes Sean Doherty.
Glib.
A PSA brought to you by Sean Doherty.
“As the Northern Hemisphere cooks, and the Antarctic ice extent is at a record low, Australia’s response is to allow a multinational company to propose the biggest 3D seismic blasting program in Australian history.
TGS-NOPEC Geophysical Company Pty Ltd has applied to blast an area of 5.5 million hectares of ocean and seafloor between northern Tasmania and the South Australian border. This is the first step in opening this whole area up for oil and gas development.
The blasting would start in October this year and continue till 2027. As usual, it’s been snuck through with minimal public consultation, without a word of concern from either @australianlabor or the Liberal ghouls.
Currently TSG have lodged their Environment Plan with our old rubber-stamp mates at NOPSEMA and there is a 30-day public comment window, which ends on August 11. NOPSEMA however are warning you not to comment unless you comment directly on their 1400-page EP.
I say comment anyway, and while you’re at it, let your local federal MP know what you think, especially if you live along that coastline. @surfrideraus is digging in against this, but we need your help… bang the fucking drum on this. Share it. Tag politicians. This is fucking insanity.”
