New Jersey Surfer Commits To Daily Cold Plunge In Snow-Covered Ocean City
A Hof-approved NY’s resolution.
Wim Hof.
Climbed Mount Kilimanjaro in shorts, ran a half marathon above the Arctic Circle barefoot, and stood in a container while covered with ice cubes for more than 112 minutes.
Kind of insane, but the ‘Iceman’ program, involving cold exposure, commitment, and breathing techniques have spread like wildfire within health-conscious circles. His book, The Wim Hof Method, was an instant New York Times bestseller, his seminars are often sold out 6 months in advance.
The benefits of cold exposure? More energy, natural anti-inflammatory, better sleep, recovery, mood etc, says his website.
Rob Kelly is a surfer who resides in Ocean City, New Jersey and is an integral character in the fabric of Garden State surf culture. He caught one of the heaviest waves ever there last winter.
“For the past few years I’ve started every new year doing a cold plunge in the ocean on New Year’s Day. I always feel so energized afterward and every year I find myself thinking ‘I need to try to do this more than just once a year’… but I never do.”
“This year’s plunge was unseasonably warm and feeling extra confident I made a resolution to do a plunge everyday I can for the rest of the winter. Two days later, the beach was covered in snow and I woke up instantly regretting that decision. Long story short, I stayed committed and am going on 4 days of jumping in the cold Atlantic ocean so far. Never go back on a commitment you make to challenge yourself. No matter how cold your balls may be.”
No matter how cold your balls.
