Japan Likely To Cancel 2021 Olympic Games

The already postponed 2020 2021 Olympic Games is likely to be cancelled.

While we don’t have “official” word of cancellation yet it’s been widely reported that Japanese officials have privately concluded that the Olympics will have to be cancelled.

Olympic host cities reap wide scale cultural and economic benefits from the games (especially those held in Summer). With Japan having heavily invested in the infrastructure needed to see out such an event many believe that officials are holding off on releasing this news until they can find an alternate future date for Japan to re-enter the schedule.

This of course means that surfing’s Olympic debut will have to wait too. With Paris and LA on the docket for 2024 and 2028, it’s looking like at least a decade until we see the world’s best take to Japanese waters.
