Has Occy Really Never Sent An Email? 

Approximately a week ago, in 58 Surf’s flagship store in Ericeira, Portugal, I had one of the greatest honors of my life. 

I sang Happy Birthday to our ‘99 World Champ, Mark Occilupo. 

For the first time ever, 58 Surf and Turf’s podcast invited a crowd into the store to watch the interview — which I was conducting — go down in real time. It was Occy, after all. How could you not? 

Power surfing enthusiasts from near and far filled into the shop to hear the saga of the Raging Bull. 

I tried to keep the questions broad and sketch an overview of his life for anyone who may not have already had the pleasure of watching ‘The Occumentary’ 4374 times. Highlights include Occy:

-Confirming that he’s never sent an email
-Explaining the ‘One board, one wax job’ theory 
-And telling the story of the flight back to Australia after winning his World Title in Brazil, during which he made limited contact with his first-class seat on the plane.
