Big Boy Turns 

‘Have you seen clips of Wado when he was a younger fella? Was a full air guy’. Something about the remark seemed unbelievable, nevertheless it came from good authority (Stab filmmaker) and after googling, proved to be not entirely untrue. 

Wade’s three-year CT stint was brief but beautiful – brought a brand of classic power surfing that was refreshing to see showcased at the highest level. ‘Avoca Jesus’ won rookie of the year honors in his first year on tour – blitzed everyone but Filipe Toledo at JBay and Rio in 2018, came fifth at Teahupoo. 

Getting results at a point break, beachy and a reef break is impressive in its own right, moreso as a fresh face sporting a Piping Hot sticker against top CT heavies courtesy of the seed. 

These days Wade’s happily off-tour, living at Kingscliff with fellow Rusty teamrider and Stab High invitee, Letty Mortenson. The lads run a pretty good program – surf and fish heaps, get a ton of wellness between their ice bathing, sauna, cook up rituals.
