A Paddle Out Like No Other — Aloha Shirts Mandatory
Celebrate the life of legendary surf filmmaker Jack McCoy this weekend in Sydney.
This Saturday, July 5, the global surf tribe will gather at Palm Beach, Sydney, to celebrate the life of legendary filmmaker, Jack McCoy.
We’re talking the first-ever live broadcast of a paddle out. That’s right — Jack’s getting sent off with cameras rolling, stories flowing, and a circle of love you could see from space.
Kicking off with a half-hour Talk Story session hosted by Nick Carroll, Occy, and Laura Enever (with special guests dropping in), the tribute will lead into a paddle out led by none other than Layne Beachley and Tom Carroll.
“Jack was a force of nature,” says Carroll. “The response has been like nothing I’ve seen before. One of his favorite sayings was ‘give and expect nothing in return’. Now it’s all coming back.”
After the ocean bit, the McCoy family is inviting everyone to Mona Vale Hotel for a proper send-off — complete with live music, a greatest-hits film reel of Jack’s work, and enough good vibes to power the grid.
The event supports Surfrider, Surfers for Climate, and the freshly-formed Jack McCoy Aloha Foundation — created to preserve Jack’s legendary archive, support the next gen of surf filmmakers, and fight for the planet he loved so dearly.
“It was Dad’s wish that we carry his legacy forward — to bring together every generation of the surfing tribe to talk story, to inspire, to protect,” says daughter Indiana Campbell. “We’ve felt the love since his passing, and we’re deeply grateful.”

So mark it down. Press your loudest aloha shirt. This will be one for the ages.
