A Longboard Edit That Will Make You Want To Dance
We don’t post many logging edits. But this one got us.
The renowned German-American architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe helped popularize the modern minimalist aesthetic with a simple yet profound notion: Less is more.
In essence, it states that effective design requires only using the bare essentials to achieve the desired effect. Filmmaker Zachariah Jones and his subject, Redondo Beach native Will Allen, may not be professional designers, but they clearly followed that formula to create the clip you see above.
Here, they trim the holiday fat and combine the two fundamental requirements that light up our brain with all sorts of feel-good chemicals: surfing + music. In some instances, opposites attract. In others, the duo forms a harmony.
Zachariah and Will’s production leans toward the latter side. Everything seems to be in sync: Will’s impeccable footwork blends in rhythm with Durand Jones and The Indications’ “Sea Gets Hotter” track. It’s the kind of clip that will make you want to dance on extra foam. It isn’t overly flashy, just a smooth and pleasing edit that’s easy on the eyes and ears.
And speaking of good design, the board Will is dancing over comes from Joe Bark, who applies the same principles that make him an elite paddle board shaper to craft modern longboards. Watch the clip above. Don’t forget your dancing shoes.
