1993 Womens World Champion Pauline Menzcer Is Finally Getting Her Well-Deserved Coin

Pauline Menzcer is an inspiration for so many reasons.

The ’93 women’s world champion and one of the subjects of the highly anticipated film Girls Cant Surf won a world title while battling crippling Rheumatoid Arthritis and un-equal pay compared to her male counterparts. The fact that she was never compensated for her world title win is a disgrace upon the face of competitive surfing.

Thankfully, today’s technologically advanced world, there are ways to right these wrongs.

Recently Pauline Menzcer has had a Go Fund Me set up for her to crowdsource the prize purse she rightfully deserves. We are delighted to report that organizers Sophie Marshall and Mimi LaMontagne have surpassed their goal of $25,000 thanks to the generous donations of the surfing community. This begs the question: What will be done with the extra cheddar? As per their update:

We would like to send such a huge thank you to everyone who has donated…. we have hit our target in less than one week! Pauline is so humbled and in awe of your generosity.

All additional donated funds will be distributed to Pauline’s charities of choice – the Disabled Surfing Association, the Autoimmune Resource & Research Centre, and an overseas friend who shares Pauline’s illness and is in dire need of assistance.

Pauline fought through immense struggles to get to where she’s at today. We couldn’t be happier that she is getting the money she deserves, and the donation of the extra cash is a testament to just how great of a human being she is. The saying “better late than never” has never been more true.
