agreed, not much flexibility, and average trimming
moderately good, not great, and mostly average by todays’ standards: reminds me of comparing beschen to slater at one point -there wasn’t any growth after a certain year went by. you could tell slater maintained a high level of flexibility and wave accumen and the other had given up in frustration and just does the one trick pony move.

wardo is sick no doubt about it. Yeah the guy can’t do a proper finner, but he punts like a mad man and pulls into barrels with the best of them. I would rather ride the tube like him than throw a new school finner.

Wardo is smooth as silk. So much better than watching the new kids do spazzy, ugly air reverses.

He has slowed a bit, is off the pace from the elite top pros, but the smooth style, big airs, power rail work and cat like tube riding remain. He actually got the cover of SURFING mag in Oct ’96, shot by Larry “Flame” Moore, doing a Backside turn that was hearlalded as ground breaking and unheard of at the time. Its now referred to as a B.Side “finner” Its pretty much the same turn that Dane and JW do today. 16 years ago. Ask dane who his fave surfers and video sections of all time are…Wards on the top 5 in both guys.

maybe im just blind here, but he isn’t transitioning his airs well. his timing seems a little off. im not bashing the guy, but seriously with guys like geiselman, chippa, kerr, john john, and medina, how do you justify this guy anymore than better than average, not great, but certainly not one of the best…?

id way rather watch wardo than anotherone of the “upcomers” doing the indentical finners at some beach break in the wannabe artsy self prmotion web clip. ward is a legend and there is no reason he should still be at the cap of progression. However, watch him in any barrels over 5+ and i doubt there are any more than 5 guys who can match his ease and style.

Ok, seems you guys are forgetting this is just from one session, and, that the last wave was a ten point ride, you also have to take into account that this is Wardo, so it’s more than likely he’s comin’ down from a heavy night.
Which in my opinion is what wardo does, and why hes such a legend, he rips so hard and im suprised he’s punting so massively, i was there this session with my boys. they were out in the line up watching wardo blow, and hes so athletic, his legs and buns are so toned so i could tell he’s still training.
as for inmates giving him respect, well they are all dumb fucks, and im sure this legend is out there to ride vertical waves doing vertical blasts, not worry about what the ‘inmates’ are thinking.
