It will go down in the history books. With the world’s best big wave surfers on hand plus the best competitive surfers in the world for yesterday’s astonishing Cloudbreak swell, we witnessed agruably the greatest cumulative big wave performance in the sport’s history. Here are just some of the people and images that stopped the surfing world.
Surfing’s Day of the Year. For now.
Scared cripless – we saw the best surfers in the best waves – maniacs who love surfing waves that are twenty feet plus. Why watch waves like that go through with just two out. If the call was made to go and WCT guys got caught inside during their heat that would have been it for 20 minutes at least. Then people like you would be screaming “Healey and Fletcher would have gone harder, WCT pussies” and all that.. Fuck, there’s no pleasing anyone.
And I don’t have any ties to anything in the surfing industry.
Settle down, jock. Soldiers, iraq, war, deployment, hail, blah blah blah.
Go watch Black Hawk Down if you want to watch ‘contingency planning’. I saw some of the most amazing barrels ever ridden, what were you watching? Or were you too busy complaining about 45 ‘grown men’ you’ve never met, not paddling into waves you would never have the balls to paddle into?
I honestly don’t understand why you are so passionate about the contest being run? The free surf was better than any contest i have ever witnessed. But that’s just me, and i don’t love war references.
I cant believe how many negative fks there are in the world…all i saw was epic surfing, and had an awesome time just watching it on the webcast…anyone that complains about getting to watch one of the best days in surfing history would have to be the most negative loser in the world…the amount of waves (some of the best to ever roll through anywhere in the world, ever) that would have been wasted if they ran the comp would be stupid! good call, epic day of surfing to watch, epic all round! fkers
farkkkk imagine a competition in those waves! oh wait…
the asp world tour is now , officially, “the world small wave tour”+champion.

anyone that stands up for the volcom leaders has some ties to them… say on this board that post… people that stick up for them are somehow connected.. money, sponsors, friends, etc..
in reality 99% of us just wanted to see the best surfers surf some of the best waves… wind should not be the sole variable to call it all off.. many of us just wanted to watch the dream tour, its not a dream.. its a crippled man’s tour
I’ll stand up for the Volcom crew and say it wasnt their call scared shitless….did you notice that it was the ASP contest director making the call….and its not just the wind…the rationale could be explained but it would be beyond your realm of comprehension…….and you did still get to see the best surfers in the world and some of the best big wave riders and some unknown chargers…..what were you watching anyway?
Stand down soldier. You wouldnt know your cheek from that landing strip between your legs. Please EDUCATE ME KOOK. Tell me about the watch company and its magic… volcom. Tell me about the data that was used to come to the decision. Stop being their lackey suck up. “the rationale”, what the hell is that verbiage? you have zero education.

me,
the point is this.
first of all its a surf contest… many variables involved.
not all the surfers would be able to surf at a certain time. consider the following: you are in a unit being deployed over 6 areas in iraq … one team will go in the first fews hours, the next groups go in another few hours, etc…
well lets just say its hailing … hail storm.. do you jump out of the plane?
yes, you do and you make certain you get your shoot out at the appropriate time. you should have planned to expect the worse…
we see grown men that have not planned.. came with small boards and failed to research the conditions.. no contingency planning. you need to realize that i understand how variables affect the contest, but you cannot justify cancelling it based on wind.

no, they hyped the sh1t out of this contest… making it seem like finally the dream tour is back, here’s the best guys in the best waves.
well this had a major flaw to it, that some want to side step like yourself.
what do we end up getting? the best guys in the best boats.
also why do you use terms like jock, grown men, balls… looks like you got other things on your mind to reference. you use those references. anything else?
Top 34 are a bunch of skirts for not insisting on running the comp in those mach truck barrels.
ASP needs to get a webcast crew to provide the public with the quality webcast they deserve. Volcom kooked it big time.

I think that it was still an epic day of surfing but it would have been absolutely insane to see the contest run and watch all our heros really earn there keep! I bet poor Melling and Raioni are pissed at loosing(and rightly so) after being the only ones to surf those crazy waves. I think the tour definitely lost some credibility with the call not to go…
