You’re Nobody ’Til Somebody Loves You

An unnecessary wrap of blossoming love in the pro surf world. Come warm your cold heart!

Infatuation, engagement, and the great gamble of holy matrimony; love is the wildest rollercoaster! The best you can do is hold tight and have fun. Your pals at Stab will never recommend rushing to the altar, but we do celebrate heated passion. To love is nothing. To be loved is something. To love and be loved? Well, that is everything. If you’re experiencing discomfort at that notion, then don’t read the rest of this article– a collection of pro surfers who have recently made life-changing commitments. Perhaps, even, to the benefit of their surfing.

Taj Burrow and Rebecca Jobson.
The ambassador of charm, Taj Burrow, and the beautiful Rebecca Jobson, are engaged following Taj’s drop-knee and utterance of four romantic words. They already have a child together (baby Arabella), so this is unsurprising – but no less sweet. The official proposal was an impromptu rather than meticulously planned event that took place on the “top deck”, the couple’s rooftop that overlooks the bay at Yallingup in Western Australia. According to Taj, he did his best Paul Roach (remember the 90s bodyboard drop-knee star of the Momentum vids?) and replaced diamonds with a burger ring – a burger flavoured Australian snack food made from corn and rice (better known as Funyuns in the US) – and followed it up with French champagne. And, given the couple’s propensity to fun, this West Australian wedding will be a jarringly good time.

Kolohe Andino and Madison Aldrich.
This news is less fresh, but should you have missed it, Kolohe popped the question to the lovely Ms Aldrich on Christmas day. The wedding will take place this year in San Clemente and you now that it’ll be brimming with surf royalty from around the world and music from the 70s.

Pat Gudauskas and Hanalei Reponty-Gudauskas.
Pat Gudauskas is a blanket of approachable warmth. And the heavenly Hanalei Reponty is even more so. The two recently wed in traditional Polynesian style (Hanalei is Tahitian), which is considered locally as an honour and a blessing. Particularly surreal for Hanalei, but perfectly suited to both.

Joe Termini and Kelia Moniz-Termini.
Stab adores Kelia Moniz. She’s a classically-trained Hawaiian beauty who is just as composed and beautiful on a longboard as she is in person. Hilarious and down-to-earth, it’s unsurprising that photog Joe Termini was quick to engage Kelia last November, before rushing to the alter this month. Look at that tattoo! And they say true love is dead…

Julian Wilson and Ashley Osborne-Wilson.
It comes with zero shock to hear that divine couple to whom all others pale in comparison, Julian Wilson and Ashley Osborne, have officially married. After being engaged for the past year and a half, the couple said their vows last Saturday at Tandina Station, just outside Jules’ hometown of Noosa. And despite not being a barefoot, cream chino, sand-based affair as many would have predicted, Jules still found time to get some waves in beforehand — spotted surfing off the pre-wedding jitters at Noosa’s Main Beach the Friday before (thanks, Sunshine Coast Daily! Real recognises real).

Dane Zaun and Bruna Schmitz-Zaun.
Next on our list of the recently hitched, one of our beloved surfing power couples, Brazil’s Bruna Schmitz and Los Angeles’ golden boy, Dane Zaun. Bruna’s a bright transplant in the congested region of Manhattan Beach, Los Angeles. We once shot her and Alana Blanchard for print, however, at the last moment her manager put the shots on ice. But, that’s beside the point, back in October, Bruna’s last name gained a ‘Z’ and the two have been living gorgeously ever-after in LA since.

Sebastian Zietz and Krisy Fulp-Zietz.
This is the fairytale birthed at the US Open of surfing back in 2012, the couple met at the Shorebreak Hotel. After dating for a few years and relocating to Kauai, Seabass took it back to where it all started. Says Krisy: The proposal brings us back to the US OPEN on July 29, 2016. Tricky guy! With the help of the Oakley Team, Sebastian set up a fake “team photo shoot” at the pier LITERALLY in the middle of the crowd. I thought nothing of the photo shoot even when I was asked to jump in the picture. Sebastian pointed up to the sky and asked, “What does that say?!” KRISY FULT WILL YOU MARRY ME <3 .. haha “Who is Krisy FULT?” Turns out it was a typo – T and P sound so similar over the phone – but the message was loud and clear and the proposal was accepted.
