When The Year’s Best Surf Company Ad Becomes A Mural In NYC
Feat. Dane Reynolds and Pam.
Murals are the true social commentary platform of pop culture. Particularly in Melbourne, Australia, where this year you can find murals of Kim K and Em Ratajkowski’s nude selfie, Kanye West kissing Kanye West, an RIP Taylor Swift portrait, and much more. But NYC, like any major city, is brimming with murals too – perhaps more. And one of the most recent murals to appear on a wall in Williamsburg features Dane Reynolds, comfortably seated with Pam the Frenchie.
You’ll likely be familiar with the image from a recent Vans advertisement, which in Stab’s opinion is the best surf company print ad of this year. Pam dazzles in denim jacket, Zissou beanie and Vans’ distinct waffle soles, while Dane is low key classic in Sk8-hi’s.
The artist, Jason Jarosz, is so good that he creates some likenesses that almost fall within the Uncanny Valley (falling just short enough). His Dane and Pam work is a surf masterpiece for 2016!
