Welcome back to the Stab Caddy, the home of professional surf crafts of extreme interest. Today we pull a CJ Hobgood craft onto our examination table. Ceej’s board here is noteworthy for a number of reasons. CJ is a World Champion. He’s a threat in any big left barrel. Earlier this year, he announced his retirement. The 2015 Pipeline Masters will be CJ’s last official WSL event as a World Tour surfer. And, it’s going to be one of the most enjoyable title showdowns in recent memory – in which CJ could play an extreme spoiler. He has nothing to lose, and wants to go out with a bang. Expect fireworks.
So, what kinda board does one ride in such an important event? If you’re CJ, it’s a 7’0″, 31-litre Channel Islands. Here, he takes us through the finer points of his chosen knife, his rudder templates and the lucky fish. Let’s hope Pipe is the right size for this thing.
