“Seared cajun chicken or venison on the BBQ. I’d have a side of salad with no dressing, side of brown rice and most importantly a huge side of kimchee! I fucking love kimchee! I usually don’t eat dessert because I always eat too big of a dinner serving and have no room. But if I could wait an hour before dessert, I would have my mum’s lilikoi cheese cake!” – MM

“The night before I won Snapper Rocks last year I ate a nice picanha BBQ (slow cooked) with black bean rice, salad and a glass of apple juice. Nothing too special. But I won’t have dessert before any finals day.” – FT

“The best meal I have before a Peahi swell is my mum’s pasta with her amazing salad. It’s usually a penne dish with slices of steak and chicken in red sauce. The salad she makes is so good I can’t get enough of it. The ratio of olive oil and balsamic vinaigrette is so important and she has it down to the wire with just the right amount on the salad. It consists of Maui greens, baby tomatoes, croutons, avocado, blue cheese, and few other ingredients. I will drink a glass of ice cold water, cranberry juice, and a glass of 2% milk. Why? Because they taste so good!” – KL

“Before finals day, say for example when I won Jeffreys Bay, I had a burger with fries from a restaurant on the beach called Kitchen Windows. It’s an organic beef and kudu burger with cheddar cheese, some greens, tomato, onion and aioli. I had it with a glass of creaming soda. But, with the knowledge I’ve learned in the last five years I’d need some greens or pasta or something if I’m going to be surfing four or five times a day.” – JS

“Before a finals day I’d have a plate of super deluxe nachos with everything on them, then wash it down with a couple of Negro Modelos and a margarita.” – DR

“I’ll eat chicken with some kind of flavour, any herbs or spices. I’m really into roasting drumsticks. I’ll have that with either some quinoa, steamed veggies like carrots, broccoli. I don’t drink alcohol through an event, so I’ll just stick to water. I usually eat chocolate before dinner, though. I don’t know why. I don’t have a go-to chocolate, it’s all good. Anything I can get my hands on.” – MF

“If I was going into finals day of a tour event, when Johnny (Gannon, trainer) was with me, we’d cook up fish with salad and a sweet potato mash. That’s a good go-to healthy dish. I always go for fish that’s local, line-caught, none of the farm stuff. Usually white flesh. My favourite fish of all time is West-Australian jewfish, which a lot of my friends catch. I’d have it with a salad with whatever, just so long as there’s avocado in there. And before finals day, no alcohol, just water.” – TB
