In Tasmania, men ride waves that most’d want nothing to do with. The water’s cold and black and the waves have staircases and are angry. South stars Marti Paradisis, James Hollmer-Cross, Tyler Hollmer-Cross, Ben Richardson, Danny Griffiths, Sandy Ryan, James Mckean, Dean Bowen, Ryan Hipwood, Jughead and Caleb Mclean. Some footage you’ve seen before, perhaps, but not from this angle. Kinda like watching a car crash at some points (grotesque, but you just can’t look away).
So turns out you can’t really get hurt surfing no matter what stupid position on huge unmakeable waves you put yourself in. Good to know. I’ll stop fagging out at 3 foot beachies now

Just once I’d love to see footage of a hold down in real time at a wave like the Stern… how long do these guys actually stay under for??? …what are the real ramifications of coming undone at wave like this??? Great footage and that guy who gets the beating under the cliff is lucky to be alive.
…we always see the impact but never have I seen a real-time hold down on video… I think it would help alot of surfers grasp the seriousness of a situation like this, short of actually having to leave the comfort of our lounge-chairs and computer screens ofcourse.
i am lost for words. that is f%^#ing crazy
