Watch: Flume Surfs Kelly Slater’s Wavepool
Sleepless in Lemoore.
Life ain’t bad for the darling of Australian electronic music. Flume, aka Harley Stretton, is a 25-year-old who went from being a computer nerd-slash-bodyboarder from Sydney’s Northern Beaches, to a millionaire rockstar who drives the same Tesla as Elon Musk (it parks itself). Aside from releasing a new album this year, called Skin, which is a heartbreaking work of staggering genius, Harley shut down Coachella and Splendour In The Grass.
But more importantly than those things, he went to surf Kelly Slater’s Wave Pool in Lemoore.
“I’m about to ride an artificial wave for the first time, at Kelly Slater’s own wavepool… and I am insanely excited right now,” he says. “This is like a dream of ours from high school.”
As mentioned, Harley’s a bodyboarder by trade, but he’s surprisingly handy on the borrowed FireWire for someone who spends so much time in a computer chair and on a tour bus.
Steph Gilmore was there too, shooting through tubes like a fresh breeze. Are Flume and Steph your fav new surf gang?
