Inside The North Shore’s Most Lux Surf House
The Weedmaps mansion with Bruce Irons, Dustin Barca, Nate Fletcher And Joel Tudor.
It’s 2017 and paces are changing! Over winter the first surf team associated with marijuana slid into the most luxurious mansion above Sunset Beach. Weedmaps brought along their skate and moto team, had each night sponsored by supporting brands, and made a move historic for the cannabis movement with their eyes on a Red Bull-esq horizon. With Bruce, Barca, Nate and Joel in tow, we flew out to watch the grandiose plan unfold, uncertain of what would transpire. By day, it was a health and wellness centre, fit with ice baths, IV treatments, yoga, MMA courtesy of Barca. Every night they threw a party, each gaining momentum and talk of the “weed” house echoed up and down the miracle. Winter in the Pacific was slow, and down days on the North Shore can be a fruitless affair. While the lack of surf was a real complaint, spending time poolside, above the sand overlooking Sunset was for the wise. With an open door, the faces around the house revolved. Everyone from Uncle Eddie Rothman to Herbie Fletcher, Jack Robinson to Al Knost, left their shoes at the entrance and waltzed with the WM.
Morning libations and the Pipe Masters with Bruce, Marius Syvanen, Aaron “Jaws” Homoki, Braydon Szafranski, Kamalei Alexander and Barca.
“Typically on the North Shore, every team has a house, and it’s segregated. But (Weedmaps) have opened up to everyone,” Bruce told Stab. “We got Barca doing some MMA shit, yoga classes every morning, chefs cooking breakfast and dinner, it’s pretty much a spa retreat.”
Common faces on the North Shore and the support of an uncommon entity.
The new high life.
