The New Age Of Surf Tech Persists: Meet Chilli’s 50/50
What’s the best blend of materials? And does it affect you?
The year’s 2016 and we’re far past the Clark Foam meltdown… However, the search for new board materials runs on. 100 percent epoxy’s hit a slow down, carbon fibre’s taken shape and there’s much discussion around the ever-so-sought-out “flex”. But what’s the perfect blend? EPS and Carbon? Traditional Poly, wood stringer and resin? Can we still call it foam? And with all these budding material medleys — what’s going to connect with the average surfer? As of now the trending combo’s a mix of EPS (it’s light weight!), epoxy (it’s strong!) and carbon fibre to hold it all together… but does it excite you? The technical frills of surf jargon have a tendency to bore, however we’d never talk ill of progression. So as long as these new blends continue to arise, we’ll fill you in. Whether you’re keen to sample or not’s on you. Here we present Chilli’s newest 50/50 blade, it’s EPS, Epoxy and Carbon test-piloted by Mitch Coleborn and Jay Davies.
