The Canary Islands Deserve Some Attention
A destination that offers every type of wave on tap.
The Canary Islands are a Spanish archipelago off the coast of northwestern Africa. Despite being exceptionally exposed to the more active side of the Atlantic, the rugged volcanic islands largely slip under everyone’s radars in regards to surf travel. Is it because the corduroy right-handers of Morocco are a short trip away? The well-mapped beaches of Portugal are nearby as well? Maybe. But it’s certainly not because the waves are prosaic. Just let Manuel Lezcano demonstrate. From rifling cover-ups, to enticing ramps, to elevator-drop bombs, the Canary’s know how to keep things interesting.
