Barron Mamiya Flips Out
A single banger from the 17-year-old Vans Triple Crown Rookie of the Year.
Despite some rough winds, and at times meager conditions, it’s been a hell of an early-season for seventeen-year-old Hawaiian prodigy, Barron Mamiya, who took home the Vans Triple Crown Rookie of the Year after a commanding display of power surfing well beyond his age.
“The turns Barron was doing on a 6’0 or whatever he was riding were so gnarly,” Sunset winner Conner Coffin had to say about young Mamiya after the final. “I kind of had to sit on him at the end of the Semifinal because I was tripping on how good he was surfing.”
While Mamiya will be looking for more than a finals appearance next year, he was quick to pop the champagne off his Rookie of the Year win with this corked-out frontside punt, captured by Gabe Caswall. Suffice it to say, you’ll be seeing lots more from Barron, and sooner than later.
