When you talk about baptisms of fire, they don’t come more severe than this. Hawaiian mad man, Dave Wassel surfed it before the event and put it at triple overhead (by his skewed wave scale that’s very, very big). For several surfers on the tour this will be only their second time surfing the wave in a contest jersey. You can bet there’s more than a few mouths running dry in Fiji today.

Being under-gunned may have been the real reason the contest was called off, but the surfers knew what they were doing when they didn't bring those boards. And of course the ASP lied that day, and officially the contest was called off for "Devil Wind", even though the wind was better than it had been all day, getting better, while people were in the background getting what would be 10pt rides.
