He still absolutely rips, and surfs everyday, but tough against the top 32. I can’t believe they don’t have a single World team rider under 30 that they would want in the comp. What the fuck is wrong with O’neill? You can argue throw away spots with Connor Coffin or Dillon Perillo in other events, but those guys surf way solid and are young.

Does Cansdell still ride for O’neill? Haven’t seen or heard jack of him since early last year. Would’ve been great to see him surfing in an event where, as far as talent goes, he undoubtedly belongs.

Rat Kills still! I am stoked for him, and someone has a chance of getting smoked. Adam Replogle can still win the trials, and its a mistake to write off either of them (or Nat, obvi). However, with the latest judging escapades, you can count on robbery.

This is supposed to be a progressive Dream Tour, and Rat is that, but this is the CT. That is your local trials? An old guy from Indian Rocks Florida, a guy from Huntington Beach, a bunch of 38 to 40 year olds, and one guy who made the Tour next year (and should be the automatic wildcard)? Yes, I know Corey and Timmy are O’ riders, and make no mistake, all these guys still rip hard, but really? Things must be tough in the lineups up there if this is the local trials. Where is the youth? Did meth get them all????

Personally I’m stoked to see Ratboy in the event. I also can’t wait to see Nicky Wood as a wildcard at Bells next year, Mike Parsons at Trestles, and Flavio Padaratz in Brazil. I also heard they’re gonna give the Teahupoo wildcard to a T-Rex.

Seriously though, all these guys rip (except T-Rex, he’s way too aggressive and his lazy arm style is worse than John Johns) but they are dinosuars and to compare them to the current generation of WT surfers is an insult. Ratboy couldn’t cut it against the worlds best when he was in his prime, so why drag him out of obscurity 10 years after he was relevant?

ratboy can destroy alot of ct guys at the lane.. especially if it gets wonky. check out some clips of him; he has really good flow now and is really good at medium sized airs in a down the line p-break type of wave. definitely wont count him out and would love to watch him over any brazzo. i see it now.. ratboy beats medina in early rounds. that would be fucking beautiful

This guy is going to get 2 waves i Round 1 – get a 6.6… two 3 point rides. He will lose.
In the 2nd round, he will get a 6, the crowd will get excited.. then he will bog, and get 4… heat total of 10. He loses. Everyone in SC gets drunk and high… typical fanfare.

Just the simple fact that locals are getting clipped for Cory Lopez, and TImmy Reyes is really weak on the part of O’neill. You have a CT event, now make the arbitrary decision to dis locals that should be in the trials. Your call, but lame, not to mention OB is too far away for a backup site. I will say though that at least there is a chance of two locals getting in the comp, even if Rat is supposed to be cannon fodder according to the article above. Better get a better web team than last years QS, when you couldn’t even get a stream going for 2 days.

O’neill can’t really win this one. They allowed the original Dane story to circulate, then the above piece came out. It was poorly handled by their Marketing Department, and makes Rat look like a sacrifice of sorts, or a mere ‘generational bridge’. Not fair to him, but thats how it goes. No sponsor really ever gives wildcards to non-riders, if that was the case, then it should go to Nat, who not only represented O’neill well for years, but is a recent winner, and on the Tour next year. Hopefully the fresh faced marketing team over there will handle other things better in the future. Personally, I hope Rat wins, even if its a slim chance.

A contest in santa cruz is the last gasp of surfings worst inbred meth head backwater. The wave actually favors Adriana for the win. Don’t talk to him. Just watch what he does. Watch him be Dane and then go home and practice for a bit. Then come back to the comp and watch him in the crowd.

At night, just go through how he laughed, walked, and moved on his feet. This will help your surfing especially with the rail grab. When he grabs the rail to the stairs, try to take a photo and then walk down the stairs and try to grab the rail like Dane. That will be your first Dane grab….. pulling this off should get you more confident in practicing how to be more like Dane.

Another suggestion would be to dress like him the next day and possibly get the whiskers going for a mustache. Let me know how it goes. Just take as many pictures of him as you can and then work on movement, balance, rail grabs, etc…. you will get it in no time.
