Nike/Hurley ice US OpenPosted 25 Sep 2012, by STABmag
Nike and Hurley are no longer sponsors of the world’s biggest surfing event, the US Open of Surfing. The event falls in the peak of the Californian summer and offers the world’s best surfers (30 of the top 32 showed this year), a shot at $100k for first place. Evan Slater said of leaving the sponsorship Hurley had committed to since 2009: “We’ve decided to export what we created at the U.S. Open and invest it into other aspects of our business, like a renewed athlete focus and new and exciting ways of connecting with millions of kids.”
The Australian Open of Surfing slated for 2013 at Manly will still go ahead in February.
