You Can Buy Modom’s Shark Deterrent Leash Real Soon
Peace of mind > a missing piece of anatomy.
You may recall a little while back, Stab detailed a new shark-deterring leash being trialled by Modom. It’s now well past trial mode, and the company have just started packaging up the product for launch. They’ve also announced that the leash was conceived in partnership with US company Sharkbanz.
This is good news. The subtle, magnetic legrope really is a game changer. Ain’t a surfer alive who hasn’t, at some point, given thought to sharks. Shit, there’s even a movie landing soon which features Blake Lively, surfer girl, stranded on a rock in a rising tide as she’s circled by a huge, and patient, great white.
Now, speaking of great whites: Those bitches are still a wildcard. Modom’s product developers believe that the leash could help deter them if they’re swimming through a lineup, but fact is, if a great white is coming in from 200m away in attack mode… nothing in our physical world will stop them.
But while nothing’s safe from an intoxicated GW, the Shakbanz tech has shown to have a very strong deterring effect on bull sharks (which is a well known surfer-attacking species). And for the greenies out there, don’t sweat: The technology doesn’t harm the sharks, or any nearby sea creatures.
Miss Blanchard enjoys Modom’s shark deterrent leash. You likely will, too.
So, what does Jack Freestone, who’s been wearing the thing for four months, think of it? “The Shark Leash is so simple. There’s no on/off button and no charging needed. It’s the perfect leash to use wherever I’m surfing. For me, it’s all about peace of mind when I’m surfing riskier areas. Anything that deters sharks and reduces the risk, I’m keen to use.”
Keep your eyes peeled for a potential June drop.
Clearly, the leash doesn’t hinder performance. As evidenced here by Jack Freestone’s 12 o’clock jam.
