Total Women’s Surfing Domination: World Champ Tyler Wright Just Won The Maui Pro
Taken from Carissa Moore the dying minutes.
She’s won it the last two times, and looked like making it three, but Carrissa Moore was beaten in the final moments of the Maui Women’s Pro by this year’s world champion, Tyler Wright. Long waits plagued the last event for the Women’s CT today at Honolua Bay. Despite conditions being frustrating at times, the final provided entertainment with the two titans of women’s competitive surfing putting on an impressive display of power surfing. Carissa, off to a blazing start snagged the set of the day early in the bout. She tracked down the line before unloading a huge carve (throwing a portion of the lip onto her fellow competitor) and a succession of linked wraps to claim an early 9.0. Needing one more decent score to be in with a chance at taking her fifth event win for this year, Tyler exercised patience through the lulls before being rewarded at last with the ride she needed to take victory with just a few minutes left on the clock.
