(Most of) Round two at the Quik Pro, France

La Graviere was mean for the start of round two at the Quiksilver Pro, France. Vicious, even. The shorebreak we’ve been watching for the first coupla days moved a little further out, got a lot bigger, and got even more powerful.

“It was definitely scary (surfing round two, not the conditions),” said John Florence, who beat fellow Hawaiian Dusty Payne. “Just going into Round two is scary, and coming up against Dusty in waves like this, big barrels, I was pretty nervous throughout the whole heat cause all he needed was a seven and he could get that in his sleep. It’s really hard to tell which ones are good. I kept pulling in and kept getting lipped on the head and stuff.”

Kolohe Andino’s post-heat Red Bull tasted a little sweeter today, after winning his first heat back since injury. He beat Josh Kerr, who Brother says is “one of the best guys out here in these conditions, so I just had a plan to go out and hunt good tubes because I was certain he would get some. I took some beatings out there. It’s super gnarly, but I managed to get a pretty clean right and come out while Josh struggled to find a rhythm. Pumped to get through a heat again and hope I can just keep going.”

Julian Wilson clocked the second 10 of the event so far, after burning through a very deep right barrel. “The 10 felt really good,” Julian said. “I spent the first quarter of that heat getting smashed. I got smashed on my first wave and then probably got smashed by fifteen more trying to go back out. As soon as that rip kind of cleared out of the line-up we saw some really good waves come through and yeah I was really happy to get that first one, get that 10 and then it up. Melling caught a couple too, he just was unlucky and fell off but it was cool to surf a heat like that coming to France. It’s so much fun.”

Check in again in a few hours to see if the rest of round two wraps.

im just happy adrianos out

i reckon Wilko will keep his spot on tour, all he needs is one more decent result in the next 6 star or one of the primes at the end of the year. The tour needs guys like him.

Dusty Payne is such a disappointment in competition. Just can’t get it together. I wonder if Wilko will be rocking those flamboyant wetties on the QS? Feel sorry for Yadin….Like they always say in those conditions… its tens or twos….Well Yadin got both. Kerrzy would be pissed. Dud heat for waves. Stoked to see Adriano go down.

4.

Sick waves went to bed just before Yadins 10” when it looked average with gems popping up here and there.
But wow what a difference 10mins can mean in surfing watching the heat recaps I was blown away doubled in size clean and much more makeable.
Imagine surfing there that arvo with your mates and they went home just before it pumped, hey guys 10mins after you left 6ft+ clean backdoor/pipe waves started coming through you should have stayed.
Would they believe you no fucking way.

5.

Yadin kinda got screwed. His 2.0 was a crazy long barrel that would have been another 10 if he made it. He only lost by 0.5… And definitely thought Yadin’s two waves were better than Jeremy’s two.

by guys like him..do you mean flamboyant attention whores?

    6.

Yes. Flamboyant attention whores make things interesting. PS Slim Jim is actually rather fat.

7.

owen vs wilko was one of the greatest goofy battles ive seen in a long time. wilko just doesnt have the heat strategy to match his raw talent which is unfortunate.

8.

Wiggolly wigged out!! id expect alot more than a 2.66 combined from this level of surfing.. Its not like there wasnt any waves?? and especially when your competitor gets an 18+ combined…

    9.

in this conditions you can make 20 or 2 points. not the best surfer the world has seen, but give the guy a break, he got really nice barrels in round one. and by the way, parko is still getting way overscored, giving lesser or equal opponents no chance at all.

Well, its 8.21am in France (according to the Quik Pro France website)… Where the fuck is the live feed Quik!!! ASP website said competition began at 8.05am?? useless…

14.

poopmen prosper in the land of shitty style

why all that hate on adriano? Despite his claims, he’s a nice guy and pretty much an all-round surfer (unless it’s bigger than 8 foot)
