Mason Ho, frontside air at Jeffreys Bay, South Africa

Supertubes turned it on for day two of this year’s Billabong Pro, J-Bay. It was maybe not quite perfect, but there were consistent barrels and men were packing them. The webcast, absent on day one, was a welcome addition to day two, all the better to see a change in pace with. Where day one was a little bumpy, day two was a lot smoother and the overall standard lifted.

Hawaiian Mason Ho finished second in his heat behind Tanner Gudauskas, advancing to the next round where he’ll face Sebastien Zietz, Leonardo Neves and …Lost pal, Chris Ward. While a Hawaiian in a fullsuit is a kinda rare sight generally, Mason’s no stranger to rubber, since he spends every summer in California. Wouldn’t it be good to see Mr Ho take his Hawaiian panache to a finals-finish?
