Kolohe Andino, pre-injury, San Clemente
Kolohe Andino’s been beached with an ankle injury for over two months now. You might’ve forgotten how amazingly the kid surfs (but probably didn’t). This clip, from Lost, should serve as a very good reminder. It was filmed around San Clemente in June, just before Kolohe hurt himself. There’s some really amazing combos in here. Stab hopes to see Mr Andino back in the brine real soon.

I love that the Tahiti comp is on, and yet ‘Here’s Kolohe at Trestles!’ The fact is that Kolohe is being promoted as the next big thing, all cause he won a bunch of QS comps in a row, and now cannot make it out of a heat on the CT. Truth is that he does not charge, and until he proves it, he will have a monkey on his back. Watching guys rip in soft Southern California waves is one thing, lumpy Bells, or gaping Fiji is another. Leaving Fiji before the big swell didn’t do him any favors either. Kolohe surfs good…not great, and with guys like John John, Pupo, and Julien on Tour, and Jack Freestone, Felipe Toledo, and such coming strong he better figure out the CT when he gets healthy. By the way he does not deserve the injury exemption. Dusty does, so Kolohe needs to prove it when he gets healthy.
Give me a break, there are two wild cards that the ASP can allocate if they choose to, and the fact that Dusty has been injured for 4 events of the season would most likely give him the nod on the wild card, but the fact that dusty seems to hate on the tour constantly saying im over the tour couldnt help his cause, plus the word on the street is that Kolohe will be out for another couple months. The kid deserves a shot regardless of what all the haters say. Reoni will have a shot as well at the WC as well.
Kolohe will get the wild card if he misses 4 events as well, dusty hurt his ankle playing basketball before the other one was even healed. Plus he had results prior to his injury and was qualifying at that point.

If he did not live IN Tran Clemente, he would not get nearly the pub he gets, nor the scrutiny. Aside from Lowers, the surf there is laughably weak and sparce. Better to live in SD, Ventura, or Santa Cruz unless you only want to be stroked off by surf mags all day. Underachieving and over hyped. Kolohe, its time to prove all the hype, not have us watch clips of you from months ago while the Tour is charging Chopes.

To answer your question about watching the US Open web cast, well no I didn’t, seriously who really watched the dribble? I mean well I can imagine dads would watch their sons of course but who else would bother?
As for me being jealous of the kid, not at all. Industry puppet, no thanks. Oh and I can read books and shit, cool huh. The kid might have to learn to do that sort of thing when Nike starts pulling their sponsorships in the next year or so, probably not though, there are plenty more willing to throw money down the drain for a mannequin that can throw his fins at Trestles.

Quality. But mid pack CT at best for now. A more hyped but less powerfull version of Brett Simpson. Age and strength transformed micks surfing and expect the same benefits for this kid with another 3-4 kg on his frame. Contender in a couple of years.
