Posted 01 Jun 2012, by STABmagIn our hipster-centric mind, the GoPro was a tacky, soulless and unnecessary trinket. Like phones in the surf, there were some things that needed to remain sacred. Then came the signing of Kelly Slater. Then came the release of this 40-seocnd ad. And, now the GoPro is the single greatest invention since buoyweather.com. There have been some great ads released over the past year (Kolohe’s Nike jumprope ad, Billabong’s Life’s Better) but this is the best by miles. Bravo, KS. Bravo, GoPro.
Better than arse to mouth, which is pretty much these message boards in a nutshell.
They are paying him u.s. $ 1 million per year to bray about the donkey cam. I hope john Florence schools him this year.
They sold 800,000 of these in 2011 alone…so I guess they can afford the champ now

great ad, awesome camera… but i never actually see good surfers mounting them on their board’s nose or holding them like KS in this commercial. most of the time i see a lot of kooks on longboards stink bugging it up with their POV shots…. there are billion of these videos littering youtube. while i’m out in the lineup, i pretty much write off anyone i see with these things attached to their boards.

I agree this ad is sick. Something about that shiny dome sprinkled with sunlight in what looks like fun-as-hell waves. However since when was GoPro ever a soulless trinket? They are fucking sick little cameras that produce amazing quality for their size/price which can be put in almost any situation. Already being used by several pro’s before Kelly got in on the act.
I guess it’s better to take portraits of your breakfast or yourself day in/day out on your iPhone and post them on Instagram for everyone to wank over…much for hipster.
