JOB vs Wedge – a gallery

Jamie O’Brien took on The Wedge in Newport, CA a few days ago. This you probably know by now. But we felt these images too good not to run. ”The last time I surfed the Wedge was about two or three years ago,” said Jamie. “It was big, it was 10 feet, the real deal. The Wedge is a real heavy wave and you’ve gotta be careful, but you’ve gotta take risks too, y’know? Some really nice sets came in, I’d say this one set was 10 feet Hawaiian. I wanted one so bad but I was in the wrong spot. I tried to take one and… took a couple wipeouts. It’s one of the most dangerous waves in California. I compare it to waves at home, y’know, it likes to hold you under and hold you under. You’re trying to find the bottom to push off to get a nice kick back up. It ripped my leash straight out of my board. This is supposed to be a rounded pin. Ripped it straight out.” Not to be taken lightly, huh?

you werent there and you dont know shit sunshine boy

2.

I reckon if Jamie is calling it 10ft, ill roll with that.

3.

He said ONE set was 10ft. If you see some of the other pictures floating around there is a few shots of a bomb set that looks pretty big. yeah the shots run in this gallery are not 10ft but JOB probably has the cred to call wave heights without needing to exagerate to prove a point. stab commentors are kooks. me included

4.

Seen plenty of waves ridden down winki bells way that have easy been so called ”Hawaiian” 12+ but because it’s Aus it’s only 6-8ft+ If that was 10ft then sign me up for the Eddie cuz I have been surfing 20ft waves with out even knowing it.

5.

If ya read the story he said last time he surfed it was 2-3 years ago, it was 10ft, not the same day lads, bloody relax ey

he clearly didnt catch the 10ft bombs guy…. he was out of position for those, like everybody else in the lineup. because thats what happens at the wedge, never see the full frame* unless you are there. guy.

NOT 10ft not even solid 8ft at least now I have photos of my self surfing way bigger waves than that and I was worried people would laugh at me if I said they were 8ft.
Not any more now can say it was 12ft easy.

these shots were 1/3 the size of several sets while he was out. if you didn’t see them, don’t speak as if you were there.

Point is taking off at the Big Wedge is nargly, makes it comparible to Hawaiian waves. People get hurt at the Wedge. But looks like fun bodysurfing.

18.

Looks like JOB’s social media team need to come in and clean up this comment section.

19.

people who think its not big enough, i giggle at thou. werent there, and dont get it. nobody gets the bombs at wedge, thats usuallu how it goes. even JOB.
