The truest sign of manhood

The truest sign of manhood

Once upon a time, when WCT rookie Matt Wilkerson was even younger (16) he surfed at Bells Beach on the very southern tip of Australia. The waves were absolutely firing. Just so much fun! And young Wilko would have been having an amazing time, save an overly aggressive, older Brazilian who insisted on dropping in. Time and time again. This Brazilian was just frothing. Just catching everything that moved. And frothing. How frustrating!

After some time, Wilko exited the water and made his way toward his father who had been sitting on the beach. The Brazilian had exited the water too and was close behind. Mr. Wilko asked, “Did you have fun out there?” And Wilko responded, “I would have if this guy hadn’t kept dropping in on me.” As he spoke he motioned over his shoulder to the frothing, aggressive, muscle-bound, frothing older Brazilian. Neco Padaratz!

And Neco got so angry! “Look!” He screamed. “I have a beard! I have a family to feed, I am a man and I have a beard!” Wilko, confused and hurt, shuffled away.

The next day a chastened Neco appeared at Mr. Wilko’s bus. He offered a heartfelt apology. “I am so sorry. I am a passionate man.” The two spent hours having a lovely conversation about family and life.

The next next day, Neco marched up to Wilko and put out his hand. The two shook and have been best mates ever since. But Neco hadn’t seen Mr. Wilko until during round one of the Quiksilver Pro, 5 years after their first meeting. So yesterday Neco walked up to Mr. Wilko, and said, “Mr. Wilkinson, your son has grown into a fine man. And he has a good, strong beard.”

Neco Padaratz is ridiculously and awesomely amazing! Using his beard as an excuse for hyper masculine behavior approaches genius! If someone asked me today who my favorite surfers in the world are I’d answer, “Nathan Fletcher, Dane Reynolds and Craig Anderson.” But I’d be thinking Neco Padaratz! - Charlie Smith

I was dissapointed when Neco got the injury wildcard over Kerrzy because I felt he didnt bring anything new to the tour and his surfing was not up to scratch. But efter his Quiky pro heat I am so happy he is on the tour. His round 2 heat along with dane v Parko was the most memorable for the contest. He brings a passion and intensity for the sport that no one else even gets close to and he was actually ripping in round 2! The judges were farkin messed up with his scores almost like they didnt know what to do. Loved it!

I can only grow a goatie. no hair on the sides of my face leaves me feeling less a man... If you have been granted the gift of hair on your face... let it show and let it grow.

Neco is a very passionate guy about surfing. See his history, many years on tour, many times WQS champion, banned for using steroids, came back to the tour again on a decisive heat where he faced sunny garcia and his macho friends in Hawai. I bet not many surfers would paddle against Sunny Garcia on hawai on that situation (I bet Dingo wouldn´t get "entangled" on Sunny´s leash like he did to the Hobgoods...)
More talented surfers don´t have half the passion this bloke has for the sport.
Hats off for Neco.

I have a beard and I stand for it, or does it stands for me?, anyway, grow facial hair now and rule the lineup, it works for me!

Come on, Lantern, all right rof Neco's passion for roids, but what about the others? Aren't they fond of this or that themselves? At least Padaratz was caught and paid for it, while the others are fine, undisturbed...Neco was tested in France, one of the only places where serious tests are performed (wether it's a good thing I don't know, in fact...). What about a huge surprise testing prior to Bells? Just to see how many guys will still be in the contest? And a real test, not just the ones you find in the US or Australia. A real drug test, like the ones performed for the guys on bicycle? 'Cause you know, surfers aren't rich enough to take the stuff and the other one that hide the first, so most of 'em would be caught...
