Josh Kerr’s Kustom airstrike entry

The air reverse, while popular, has polarised opinion in the surfing community.

“It’s hated in a lot of ways. It comes down to whether you hold the grab till you land. That shits people to tears and gets way overscored in competitions,” says Josh Kerr of surfing’s most popular aerial.

His recent Kustom Airstrike entry is definitely not one of those. And given Dusty Payne won last year’s purse for an air reverse that was “grabbed till he landed” (albeit, one that was tweaked to all fuck), could this be a contender? Or has the move become too passe to ever receive the payout again? Perhaps it’s all moot. Really, can anyone see the judges going past Flynn Novak’s FS backflip to pit to "...and now to re-affix my power balance bracelet"?

Flynns backflip should win it. I llike how he let go of the grab before landing on the wave rather than holding onto it through the whitewash

That back flip was the shit.

First it was that the onshore wind was the new offshore now with back flips the offshore is now the new onshore. Maybe.....
