First frames from Landscape Altered

Landscape Altered is an initiative by Kustom and Modern Collective director Kai Neville, to put some of the globe’s most progressive surfers in an environment conducive to stomping a move worth $50k in Kustom's Airstrike. A team including Clay Marzo, Jay Davies, Mitch Coleborn, Josh Kerr and Chippa Wilson are currently making their way through the Mentawais. Here, Newy new-school talent, Craig Anderson gives us the 411 on the first release of frame grabs from the trip.

Coleborn - BS Method punt

The height of the air and size of the wave is impressive. The difficulty is nailing the grab and keeping your feet stuck to the board, which is on a fruity angle. Landing this would be pretty hard, given the height and size of the wave.  You don’t wanna botch something like this end up with buckled ankles and knees. I don’t think this is gonna win the $50k unless he can throw a rotation in the mix here. Nonetheless, it’s different and rad, and I’d be stoked to pull one like this.

Kerr - Handplant

Kerrzy’s one here looks like a skate boarding hand plant and is really tweaked and upside down. These kind of airs aren’t gonna win but the degree of difficulty is high. This must be one of the hardest to spin out of unless you get high in the air like Dusty did last year and tweak it upside down. It’s no $50k for Kerrzy on this move.

Jay Davies - Air Rev

Standard air reverse. Don’t think it’s going to cut it this year unless there’s a double rotation or off a 10ft section.

Jay Davies – FS Varial

I like this varial a lot. If you can pull one full rotation, and this high, it could deserve the $50k. We saw Wade Goodall stomp his new trick pretty similar to this last year and not win because I think people wanna see height and technical difficulty at the same time.

Josh Kerr - Flip

This trick is nuts. I saw a clip of Kerrzy last year almost making a double rotation at Keramas. This is a method grab upside down and real tweaked. This would win if Kerrzy had the double rotation in there. I’ve never done anything or tried anything like this so I don’t really know the degree of difficulty but landing after spinning fast or how Kerrzy does would be super hard.

Are they not showing framegrabs of Chippa because his 2 flips he already pulled are too good to leak out?

there are no aussies "inventing new tricks". goodalls passion pop was being done over a decade before. the only different now is the amount of media and publicity you skiny cunts are getting. stick to barrells.

has anybody actually ever seen a double rotation launched? i'm pretty sure that nobody's anywhere near landing a fucking legit one considering the fact that most of the top guys can barely pull an actual f/s 360. for the most part the majority of air reverses only have about 210 degrees of rotation in them with an assload of revert.

You think punting in the surf is hard on the body? Every watched skateboarders or Moto-X guys in action? These guys go big and really put their body on the line. Most of them are held together with bolts.

there is a few guys inovating right now. the tech side of things is really hard to judge because the only people who can appreciate just how hard are the ones doing it. goodall stomped another new one last week. Mooney has a new move. Craig's right, you need to have it tech and big.
double rotations are where it is at im afraid.

Craig Anderson will be surfing for a long while. Sounds like this guy up top is a washed out, dish washer that could only do chop hops

...how long guys will be able to continue surfing at this level? An air reverse in waist high beachbreak can do a number on the knees/ankles and then some. With guys having (I say having because they gotta keep that sponsor, but of course they enjoy it as well) to push it to this level, multiply that impact x10.

That said, how long will the career of the pro sufer last for this Mod generation?

Several guys on tour in their 30s right now, still punting (kelly, CJ, etc.) but not at this level.

I find it doubtful very many Craig Andersons will be able to take a career past 30, due to body changes and nagging injurys.

Word of advice: better to brush up on ding repair than trade in those boards.
