Parko injures leg in Bali
A regulation surf during a training session in Bali almost threw a crowbar in the spokes of Joel Parkinson’s world title race.
Reports emerged from Bali yesterday that Parko suffered an injury while attempting an air reverse at the righthand reef break of Canggu in Bali.
While he successfully made and rode out of the move, Parko's foot was seen to slip and he recoiled in pain, returning to the beach. He was helped from the water by fellow surfers before being assessed on the beach by friends.
However, he was later seen hobbling up the beach. Soon after Stab reported the incident, Parko's management was on the phone to assure us his injury was not serious, and he would be fine by Trestles.
The injury was a strain in his calf or Achilles tendon, and would heal soon. Just as well. Ankle injuries can often take months to fix, which would have given CJ Hobgood, 1400 points behind Parko in the ratings, a sniff at the title, and made the remainder of the World Tour a whole lot more interesting. - Jed Smith
