Australian Jack Freestone just won his second Oakley World Pro Junior in Bali. At smallish but skatepark Keramas, Jack clocked a 19.53 combined total in the semi, before beating Hawaiian Ezekiel Lau in the final with a 13.83 combined total. He also won in Bali in 2010, but scooping a world title in his last year as a junior is the sweetest fruit of all.

And the filming of the surfing for the junior event was spot on. Are the dumb arse ASP paying big bucks and letting gumby non surfers film and fuck up the main WCT events. While the juniors have, I don’t know maybe guys who surf and can film waves so we can see all the turn/barrel ride.

Idiot, let’s get a couple of things straight. Jack is already full-time on the ‘qs (and ranked inside the top 50 if i’m correct), battling it out with everyone else to get at a slice of the ‘ct pie. And after this event and the way he surfed, I don’t think there’d be a surfer on tour who’d say he doesn’t deserve to be in the big league alongside his peers (JJF, Medina, Kolohe etc.). It’s only a matter of time.

Freestone gets a trophy to put on the mantle but the title is rather meaningless while JJ Flo, Medina, Kolohe and Pupo are on the big boys tour. The junior series gives these young adults an inflated ego and easy prize money while they should be battling on the QS full time by the time they are 20.

freestone’s air was not a kerrupt, i dont know why everyone keeps saying that. It was a slob and stalefish at the same time. In a kerrupty you reach back and double grab by the fins which is what makes you go kinda upside down/alley oop.
This was a frontside full rotator with a slob and stalefish which is way farking hardy then a kerrupt.

Isn’t a slob combined with a stale fish technically called a safety grab? The kid is ready to play with the bigger kids though. But a lot can happen on the way to a world title. Contrast jj vs kolohe for example. Remember back when it seemed “inevitable” that jordy or Julia would win a world title?

A) he swapped sides with his grabs + rotated, increasing difficulty (safety double grabs are usually the other way around) and aesthetics.
