This Is The Surfboard Mason Ho Rides
Come for the surfing, stay because of Mason’s analysis.
When choosing a pro to model a board exclusively after, picking an individual with some personality certainly doesn’t hurt. Which is why …Lost is lucky to have Mason Ho, who is now the proud owner of his own signature board: The VooDoo Child. “I wanted a board like they competed on back in the 80s combined with what I like nowadays,” says Mason. “Just something fun. You don’t have to be a superhero to surf super good.”
“It’s a small wave board,” Matt Biolos tells Stab. “Fast down the line off the front foot, with a noticeable kick in the tail. Lots of concave and tail rocker under the back foot, for quick turns in small surf. It’s not a retro board, it’s a modern playful board with a stylistic nod to the 80s.
“Slight beak, slight needle nose in the last few inches. And a steep, full, yet soft rail. With a noticeable hip to wide squash tail. The double concave deck in the tail gives it that worn in feel that Mason loves. It’s a really easy board for anyone who rides modern high-performance shortboards, but with a little bit of spice, because everything looks the same these days.”
