he surfs insane no doubt but it would be good to see some more more character come through in his surfing but hopefully that will come. Bit to mechanical, but just my liking.

All the ASP world titles in a very close future will be shared by only two surfers: Gabriel Medina and John John Florence. Forget about the rest. Take the whole new generation of american and austrlian surfers and there´s NONE getting even close of Gabriel and JJ.
So you’re saying that at solid Snapper, Bells or Jbay that Julian, Jordy, Taj, Mick and Parko won’t beat Medina 4 times out of 5? He can excel in beachbreaks and trestles, which is essentially a beachbreak.
Don’t bother mentioning him getting to the quarters at Pipe either, he made 2 heats, and both those opponents scored less than a 3 point total. No I don’t hate him, I like his style and he is my favourite south american surfer.
My friend, this ‘taj,mick,parko’ thing is about to retire…. Julian??? Just another hope, nothing won until now. Jj and Medina ARE the real future.
Ask anyone with true tour experience that follows the tour now (ie Shea Lopez), the three most talented guys on tour at the moment are Kelly, John and Julian. Don’t worry Julian will win an event soon and it won’t be his last.
You are only talking about regular foot surfers at right handers points, dude.
That’s because three of the stops on tour are at right hand points… also it will take him a while to get the experience to beat any of the aforementioned at Portugal, Teahupo’o and Pipe if there is any real size. He’s ridiculously good for an 18 year old but just cause he dominates in certain conditions doesn’t mean he’ll beat all the guys that’ve won their for the last 10 years.
Amazing how much he surfs like Barton Lynch especially on his backhand. Even the flouro green wetsuit gave me flash backs to Barton’s surf skins in the 80s’. Such a similar style but with an freakish air game. Definite world champ.

a bit Brazilianish for my liking. Just cant get past it. Their styles are getting better i guess but its just not there. Rips though but id rather watch aggression and raw power than ten airs exactly the same.

I’m not entirely convinced that acknowledging and disliking a characteristic evident in some Brazilian surfers is at its core, racist. A judgement on style should never be confused for racism. In the future just think about it as a form of cultural anthropology and put your flag back in the closet.
