Yago Dora, And A Taste Of Jeffreys Bay
Yesterday’s sampler.
The web’s full of excuses to sit and stare. Here’s another: Yago Dora, surfing’s most stylish Brazilian and previous CT wildcard, through the lens of Alan van Gysen, yesterday at Jeffreys Bay. In a time when Instagram’s killed the cover shot and more photos slide through our feeds than their worth in words, occasionally, a shot rises above the brine. Stab is quite fond of AVG. If Namibia’s on, he’s there (read his account of Eli Olson and company pulling a lifeless bodyboard from the impact zone of Skeleton Bay earlier this week). When J-Bay swings, he presents shots that bring your gaze through a series of steps before landing on Yago.
“So, J-Bay was cooking today,” Alan tells Stab. “And in town to sample one of South Africa’s best was many of the world’s top QS campaigners. Yago Dora, who along with some of the world’s elite like Jordy Smith kept the flame alive and well. Apparently, the waves today were just a foretaste of things to come. We shall see. With all the swells hitting South Africa of late, and all the QS events – not to mention the big Prime QS in Ballito next month – it has been a lekker welcome for all travellers. This is J-Bay, welcome”
