Ryan Callinan Kicks For An Audience Of Few In Newcastle
When the foot scoops the foam.
Since falling off the CT, Ryan Callinan has joined the Qualifying Series twice. While only surfing six-star events, he’s currently situated 73rd on the QS. The gent from Newcastle, however, is still CT material. That is if he can garner the consistency needed to stay on tour. In the meantime, he’ll remain a participant of the World Surf League’s “grinder” – not to be confused with a dating app for likeminded men.
We’ll let the veteran photog known as Bosko explain it from here. “Ryan and Craig called me and said they were checking the surf,” he tells Stab. “When I didn’t hear from them I figured it was no good. I went for a drive to check it and found the boys in the car park suiting up at Nobbys. It was average.”
“Ryan was quick to get in the water and Craig and I watched,” Bosko continues. “Ryan was getting a few straight away and was going nuts. So, I raced back home to get my equipment. When I got back he put on a massive show. This wave is better with the tide, he stayed out for a long time, only does that when he is having fun. This kid is easily a WCT surfer. He is just too good.”
