Filipe Toledo wins Sooruz Lacanau Pro

Posted 20 Aug 2012, by STABmag

Filipe Toledo, part of Brazil’s ever-growing new wave, just won the ASP five-star Sooruz Lacanau Pro. The 17-year old beat Jack Freestone in the final with a combined heat total of 17.53. Equal third were Dion Atkinson and, once again at the business-end of an event, Glenn Hall. “This is my best result so far for sure,” said Filipe. “I don’t have words to describe how I feel, it’s just amazing, unbelievable. I know Jack surfs pretty much like me and I tried not to do too much airs but you know you got to do what it takes to get the score.”

Oh no #2, so we have to take back Dnilo Couto’s XXL award and Carlos Burle’s Big Wave title from couple weeks ago, Brazilians don’t surf 6+ ft waves…..

2.

Oh no another Brazilian…..

Yeah but I was watching him surf up on the goldy last year in 2ft junk and no kidding on a wave most young pros would do 2turns he would do 6 different turns good cuttys sick little lip snaps sending rooster tails to the sky then something I don”t know to finner then some air all with really good style and it was not ugly like a lot of kids flying down the line legs way apart looking for the air.
After finding out his name I went to the Internet thinking this was the next Slater but like I said it all soured watching him surf waves in Hawaii.
Time will tell!

This guy surfs so good in small waves it”s scary has style and a bag of moves that I can”t work out. However watching footage of him in 6ft waves around Hawaii and things turned ugly gone was the fluid style and the moves.
Maybe in a few years maybe not.

Hes just 17 guys, mind that.

Sand “Nazi”, as always, with tons of prejudice. There´s some Nike videos from the Kid in Haleiwa last winter and he was kiling it, with power, flow and great style. Sand Nazi, why are you sou hater, boy? Can´t you just love people from other nations??

Dont need style in 3 foot… just pop airs and reverses… can be ugly as fuck just as long as you make it…

Realist 4-6ft waves are not BIG.

For Brazilians, they are. Biggest they would surf

His dad was a brazilian champ bacl in the 90s….The kid got the genes and the family support. He is the CT next year already. Congrats!!

Ah we are talking about Filipe not other Brazilians who do take off and charge big waves we all know other Brazilians charge and Japanese and even Germans so get you head out of the sand and stay on topic I was talking about Filipe you moron.

15.

And one other thing number 13 he wasn’t surfing heavy pipe or any hard barrelling waves in the footage of him surfing Hawaii they were just good powerfull 6ft waves that he was trying to do turns on and all the technical turns and flow which I had witness on the gold coast had disappeared.
Like I said 13 get your head out of the sand idiot.
