Taj

Taj Burrow scooped first heat win of the day with some excellent tuberiding.

Wilkocestari

Matt Wilkinson wore a clever wetsuit, but made poor wave choices. Round two!

Tiagocestari

Tiago Pires fell on Kelly's (quad) sword, for which he's forgiven.

PatCestari

Patty Gudauskas beat Hawaiian JJ Florenzo, and Brazilian Miguel Pupo.

Owencestari

If Owen Wright had landed this oop, he may've slipped past Michel Bourez.

MichelCestari

But then, Michel is a dominating man.

Kellycestari

What, Kelly Slater, win a heat? You kid!

KaiCestari

Kai Otton lucked out in heat one against Taj.

JJcestari

Never mind round two, John's double-handed stalls were... just great. *This isn't one.

Danecestari

Dane Reynolds won his heat. Yup, y'read that right.

JadsonCestari

Jadson Andre has a good tuberiding style. But, not on this occasion.

AdsCestari

Adriano De Souza sacrificed himself to the sand, but fell to Jadson.

Day one of the 2012 Quiksilver Pro, France

Opening day of the 2012 Quiksilver Pro was short and furious, much like the conditions at La Graviere. A stretch more than a shorepound, the French beachbreak offered excellent barrels to those who chose carefully. “In these kind of conditions, one wave can change the heat and you just hope you’re on that one,” said Mick Fanning, who looked electric in victory. “When they come through, there are great, little barrels to be had.”

Dane Reynolds, event wildcard, won his heat against Joel Parkinson and Bede Durbidge. Can you believe it! “The waves were pretty fun out there when they came through,” said Dane. “It’s nice and spread out so Joel and Bede were kind of down on their own peak and I was up on my own peak which is always nice. I’m not much of a hassler. Competition is fun for me and I don’t put pressure on myself to do well. I do like to see how I perform in this environment though and that’s why I do these.”

Kelly Slater, unsurprisingly, won his round one heat and will no doubt be looking to clock a keeper result in Hossegor. “Well I didn’t back-up my result in Fiji with one in Tahiti,” said the enigmatic Floridian. “It’s tough at this level. There’s no doubt about that. I always enjoy France though. I’ve been coming here for so long that it really is like another home for me and I feel really comfortable out there. I was surfing on that same quad I surfed in the final at Lowers last week and it’s been feeling really good so if it stays like this I may stay on it.”

Catch round one’s remainder (and hopefully round two) tomorrow, here. That is, if the conditions stick around.

Adriano or what ever his fucken name is claiming a 4.2.. beat it you kook your a disgrace.

i believe Dane meant to say…. “Competition isn’t fun for me and the surf world puts a lot of pressure on me to do well. During my contract negotiations, Quik got on their knees and pleaded with me to do their events. I consulted with my chick (since she’s my handler) and she decided it would really be hipster of me to act like i care once in a blue moon… and that’s why i do these.”

98% of surfers do enjoy to watch live surfing, especially WT events, the other 2% is here talking from their arses…

4.

Some one tell the frkn cam guys to stop zooming in so colse pisses me o ff not being able to see the whole wave sometimes you only see the bottom half of the wave

xyv, you might wanna check your facts and research how the seeding system works – Rounds 1, 2 and 3 are all re-seeded, with the highest seed meeting the lowest, so it is quite posible for two round 1 winners to meet in round 3. Dane vs Kelly is possible becuase these are the seedings for the event:

Mick: highest
Joel: 2nd Highest
Kelly: 3rd Highest
Dane: 2nd lowest (Sponsor wildcard)
Wiggoly Dantas: lowest (trialist wildcard)

Mick, Kelly and Dane are through to round 3 already, so Parko and Wiggoly square off as the highest and lowest seeds in round 2. If Parko wins, Dane will drop to the lowest seed for round 3 and face Mick. If Wiggoly beats Parko (a big if…) then Dane will remain the 2nd lowest seed for round 3, hence will face Kelly, who would rise to the #2 seed following Parko’s loss.

I’m looking forward to a Dane vs Mick match up, because an upset there could blow the Title race wide open. The last three events (Heavy split-peak tubes at Pipe and Portugal, right hand point break in California, all waves where priority and strategy are important) will favour Parko, Mick, Kelly and John John more than any one else on Tour so it will be awesome to see them all duke it out for the rest of the year.

good to see some pictures of the losers (stab sucked their balls) and a shit photo from jadson and ads on your last pages. never mind stab. your heroes (guys that your customers like to see here) will be dead soon(ish) than ya think at this tour…
guess ya like to see mr. matty “i’m outta the tour for good” wilko wearing that disgraced wettie, rather than put on a decent brazzo picture.
the last man who smiles. have a much better smile guys. get real. open your eyes.

3.

I would welcome the opportunity to view heats I missed, to wallow in some brand. Is there such a thing as ‘heats on demand’? What I mean to say is “Can we see a heat again?” If one wants to watch a heat that has already been completed, can one do this? Does such technology exist on planet Earth?

4.

Adriano. What the fuck

5.

Also Stab. JJ Florenzo? What the fuck

I know if my career was on the line day in day out and i was “coming last” in everything i did the last thing i would be having was fun re- Andre Jadson call.

10.

meh tha waves weren’t onshore enough for the boiz to shred….

11.

That claim by Ads was pretty bad – I was embarrassed for him. The judges should deduct a point for that and tell him to stop doing it unless he is being spat out of a hideous bowl or its the final.

    12.

the judges should deduct a point from YOU for having such a gay nickname

13.

travis logie, 2 backside hits: 5 pointer, josh kerr, great small barrel and backside air: 4 points. WTF

14.

Possibility for a Dane v Kelly match-up in round 3 tickle anyones fancy

16.

I wish they’d hold the contest on a proper bank like last year, not a la grav shorey. I’d rather watch manoeuvres than tubes

17.

um.. did you just compliment jadsons style? are you bent?

18.

dreamer,
winners of round 3 don’t go up against other winners of the same round, you dunce.

19.

dane should do well theres a million clips on marine layer of this exact surf – small peaky short hollow bechies
