Craig Anderson, coping tap, Indonesia

Sometimes travel requires quick thinking. You gotta make fast decisions and adapt to whatevs gets thrown your way. Craig Anderson, pictured here, knows this. So, at the airport on his way to Indo for a DC x Stab x Transworld trip that’s currently a-happening, he made a fast decision. Whether it was cause he’s been stung before, or because he had a bad feeling, Craig convinced travel buddy Mitch Coleborn to divide up each of their quivers, and distribute the boards half-and-half into each of the boardbags. Sure enough, Mitch’s boardbag with half of his quiver and half of Craig’s quiver turned up. Craig’s boardbag, with the other half of each man’s quiver, did not. This is one of the remaining boards Craig has for the trip and, luckily, it looks to work just fine. But as photog Ryan Miller (who’s shooting photos on the trip) asks: “How bummed would you be riding another man’s craft for an entire trip?”

Photographer profile

Ryan Miller

Ryan Miller, 33 years old, does not know how to write a bad email. Your pals at Stab have learnt to live vicariously through Miller’s red wine-fuelled letters from the road. His travels take him to some dreamy locales and, in those places, he scores all-time photos: “My favourite photo I’ve shot was of Benny Bourgeois in the Caribbean, with a fisheye. Often I just take photos, but rarely do I get to make one.” In an age of tail-highs and released fins, Ryan still most likes to shoot someone who can lay-down a big backside turn. Namely: Jordy Smith, Dane Reynolds, Gabe Kling, Kekoa Bacalso, Damien Hobgood and Peter Mendia. Like most photogs, Miller misses Scott Aichner’s work. But, as far as contemporary inspiration? “Trying to see things through my daughter’s eyes. It’s wild to think about someone experiencing something totally new on almost a daily basis when, as adults, we rarely get to experience something truly new.”
