Cory Robertson, a twirl a day, a world away

Yesterday, this move might have won young Sydney surfer, Cory Robertson the US Open. The backside twirl, which in a lot of ways is a more natural rotation than many frontside punts, has been taken into a new realm of rotation and height in recent years, courtesy of Dane Reynolds, Gabriel Medina etc. This is a fine effort by Cory Robertson, right up there with the best in fact, but to get to surfing’s top tier requires more than a flaring backside rote, unfortunately.
