Mick wins Chopes

Posted 28 Aug 2012, by STABmag

The Billabong Pro, Tahiti just finished. Here’s what’s happened:

Ricardo Dos Santos beat Taj Burrow, but Mick Fanning beat Ricardo. Owen Wright beat Julian Wilson, then CJ Hobgood. Jeremy Flores beat Kieren Perrow, but then lost to Parko. John Florence beat Damien Hobgood and then Gabs Medina.

In the semis, Mick beat Owen and Joel beat John.

And in the final, Mick beat Joel.

Tired of the cliche’ Andy Irons interviews.
We will not forget, but please, can we move on…

There is a difference between respect, remembrance, and dead horse kicking. The Surf Industry so badly wants to be in the center of a scene (think: Ke11y debacle), that it will shove things into the ground until people are sick of it. I love the Andy flashbacks, and interviews, BUT every few minutes, every entry trailer, all day is a bit too much. If the Surf Industry really wants to honor him, they should make the ASP logo him throwing a patented hack. That would truly memorialize him, be ever present and visible, yet not burn people out. That would be the ultimate respect, but of course the Industry will balk at going THAT far.

C´mon. The guy scored 4.something, clearly the waves did´nt come, even for JJF who usually scores much higher.

Medina proving he’s not quite there in heavier stuff, but making the quarters. GT insists on questionably gay leather sailor hats, and uncomfortably giddy interviews. Parko got jacked up and pulled out a miracle at the horn. Can’t wait for the final.
