Another attack in Reunion!
Posted 06 Aug 2012, by STABmagReunion Island will be crossed off the bucket lists’ of countless surfers following news of another shark attack off the island yesterday. The latest, coming just two weeks after a 22 year old surfer was killed by a suspected Bull Shark
, saw a forty year old suffer a severed hand and foot while surfing the famous left-hander and former site of the Rip Curl Search event (won by Mick Fanning), St Leu. The attack takes the tally to eight since the start of 2011. Just days prior to the incident , the mayor of St Leu had enacted a plan to pay fishermen to cull sharks around the area, only to be forced by the French Government to reverse the decision shortly after.
“(The attack) was foreseeable,” he told radio station Antenne Reunion yesterday. “I have been asking for action for several weeks. Once again this has happened in the marine reserve. People need to take responsibility.”
totatally unnecessary. humans, like sharks, are apex predators. we eat every species the shark does, and more! (the only species we don’t eat is protected.)
and because of the nature of public fishing in international waters, WE OVERFISH EVERYTHING. but now sharks receieve special protections worldwide? why? so that their prey doesn’t overpopulate? WE WOULD KEEP THAT FROM HAPPENING.
do.you.under.stand.we.over.fish.every.thing.
Kiddie talk : To much fishing = No food for sharks ( which are protected and growing at radical numbers) then sharkie wants to eat but there is no food cus the hippies and tree huggers love sushi sooo much and sit at the fancy restaurants and stuff there mouths and blurt out save sharks its there ocean and kingdom, which they chomp on there tuna hand roll… Sharks do not need protection anymore… there numbers are out of control….

Carry a diving knife when you surf.
Wear armour.
Do not make splashing noises.
Do not piss in your wetty.
Any reef cuts are to be treated seriously, evacuate to water.
Avoid surfing outer reefs unless you have a jetski driver carrying a bazooka (can be utilised as cameraman).
Hope your body odour turns the shark off (fart in wetsuit regularly).
If shark is spotted, yell “Shaaaaaaaaaaaaark”, while pointing in its general vacinity to alert other ocean goers. Depending on sharks movements, calmly head for safety in counter-attack retreat position.

Suck my claspers!
Just a thought, do you really think a large White Pointer can actually Catch a Tuna? Even Mako’ have a hard time catching a Yellowfin or Bigeye, Tuna are so fast its mind boggling.
Having gutted about ten zillion Sharks over the last fifteen years or so, I can tell you its not Tuna I find inside them, its usually Squid, Reys Bream, Oil fish, that sort of thing.
Whites can tell Man from Seal, they spend their entire existence perfecting the art of hunting their chosen game, which is not exactly stupid by nature, Seals are really pretty clever. I think Sharks are opportunists, put yourself in the wrong place at the wrong time in the path of a hungry Fish and you will get hit. White Sharks are growing in numbers because nothing is eating or hunting them. Best option is to quietly knock a few off where you surf and keep your fingers crossed.
